Today AOL introduced an enhanced version of the AOL Mail gadget offering users the ability to safely manage their AOL and AIM Mail accounts through the iGoogle homepage. Leveraging iGoogle's new canvas view feature, AOL Mail users can now read, reply to, forward, delete and mark new mail as spam; as well as compose new mail without leaving the iGoogle page.

1. Desperately Need Help re AOL Webmail's Lack of Reliability: I am at the end of my rope. I have difficulty accessing mail and composing responses. Seems like there is difficulty in loading everything because of the heavy ad graphics. The slowness is driving me crazy. I regularly empty my cache and run spyware and virus software. Are others having this problem? It is affecting my ability to work efficiently.
I have Windows XP but I have not loaded the Service Pack 3. Could that help at all? Would accessing email through IGoogle be better? Need some advice!

2. @ne2904: I am sorry you have such trouble. The ads should really have no impact at all. If you are behind dial-up you may try http://basic.webmail.aol.com. This should be much faster. Also what browser are you using? Have you considered Firefox?

3. I have high speed cable. I use Internet Explorer. And, I have sometimes had to use the basic version of AOL mail but that is not a solution because you are not able to access the contents of saved folders.

4. @ne2907: Basic Webmail provides all the same (basic) functionality then Standard Webmail. This includes the folders as well: You can access them by clicking on "My Folders" which you can find in the left pane under the system folders. This will expand the list and should display all your private folders.
Regarding the other "Slowness" you're reporting. Make sure you're using the latest version of Internet Explorer (7.0) - and also you might want to give Firefox 3.0 a try. It's much more secure and faster then Internet Explorer.

5. Marcel - Thanks for your responsiveness. Can you comment on the annoying error message that many of us are receiving: "We're sorry, the content you've requested is temporarily unavailable. Try again later."

6. @ne2907: This is an "infamous" error message coming from Internet Explorer. It most often helps to either go to http://webmail.aol.com directly (not through aol.com) or - I know I keep repeating myself - to use another browser like Firefox.

7. Ever since Dec 9, when I sign in to My AOL, using Firefox and Google,I get the same news stories. I have tried downloading the new application for One Click sign in from iGoogle, but simply get a display on how to download, without access to the steps that are illustrated.
