New AOL Sync Feature Allows Real-Time Mobile Updates to AOL Calendar and Address Book
By Mike Chowla, Principal Product Manager, AOL Mail
AOL introduced the new AOL Sync for beta testing at http://aolsync.aol.com. The new features let users sync their AOL Calendar and Address Book with a wide range of mobile devices including the iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, and many phones from Nokia, Motorola and Samsung. AOL Sync supports "Over the Air" synchronization so users can make real-time updates to their calendar and list of contacts over the cell network. In addition, AOL Sync also supports synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook.
To bring users the Sync feature that makes calendar and address book access a portable and 100% mobile experience, AOL partnered with Funambol, the open source provider of push email and mobile sync for the mass market. Funambol's open source approach to making push e-mail and mobile data available on any device means AOL users can now access their personal information anywhere, anytime.
To get started with the new AOL Sync, check out the demo below.

1. Very impressive.
When do you think the great technical and innovative expertise at AOL will be able to clean up the mess that is my mailbox? I have only complained about this 20 or 30 times.
My Compose box is hidden by web search text. Frequently, my inbox is hidden from view.
These cannot be that hard to fix, can they?
All of your boasting is nice, but in reality, you can't back any of it up with real fixes to real problems. Which makes you nothing more than an empty suit.

2. @ ML Smith/buytextual: Thank you. I seriously appreciate your feedback and I highly value any kind of comment regarding our webmail product. Regarding your specific issue: It seems your browser window or monitor resolution is to small to properly display webmail and to fully benefit from all the available functionality. I do agree that it is a nasty thing if all the elements don't fit. While we try to support all possible configurations our users might have, it is really challenging to support all of them out there. So I am really sorry it does not work for you the way it should. While we will look into this particular issue and try to make it less painful for cases like yours, there are a couple of options you might have: Increase the monitor resolution or browser window size. If this is not an option for you, try our basic mail product: http://basic.webmail.aol.com
Please continue to send feedback - also feel free to send it directly to me.

3. Fumambol is a great pick for your sync partner and Aol Sync is a great idea. However, please let me offer a suggestion so that I can use it. It would be very nice to be able to sync ONLY contacts or ONLY calendars with AOL Sync. Right now you MUST sync both. I have MS exchange for my calendar; however, I would like to use AOL mail and sync my contacts to my Iphone (using AOL sync and Fumambol's iPhone app.). Right now I can't do it because AOL syncs both the calendar and the contacts :(

4. Please fix one of the sync bugs for display name. With the iphone many of my contacts are companies that don't have a first and last name, but in AOL webmail, it shows the contact blank. Please add the option to pull the company name as the display if no first or last name is present.
Thanks!
