Need help with AOL webmail setting to play sound when new mail arrives I use AOL webmail. Despite having checked "Play a sound when new mail arrives," I am not hearing a sound other than "You've got mail" when I first log on. I have tried checking, unchecking and rechecking the box but to no avail. Any ideas? The save box appears to be disabled. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you for your work yesterday (6/2). Made this email change much more palatable.

I've been having problems with my webmail inbox saying there are unread messages still left when there are none... what can I do? I've looked everywhere for help but it's nowhere to be found...

Outlook is still telling me:
"$$RR invalid username/password" when it tries to log on to pop.csi.com.
The username/password works fine for the classic webmail at webmail.compuserve.com. I've had this problem since the 18th. I've talked to tech support a doz times. See case # 174480928.

Thanks for the update, but you made me lose the email I was writing, and I'd spent some time on it without knowing you were updating it! Please give us some advance warning!

Please help me to delete the message that appears at the bottom of my email. It is usually advertising either AOL services or someone elses.
I have looked at the how to information and using all three routes am unable to access the message footer part of AOL Mail to switch it off.
It is not possible in settings as message footer is not an option either before anyone suggests it. Thanks in advance as am both irritated and embarassed by some of the ads...hopefully someone can help. Thanks

The POP3 mail server continues to exhibit sporadic reliability.
I have to check my mail 2-3 times to be able to finally connect to the server. Out look reports:
Task 'CompuServe - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I check other mail services, and have NEVER had this problem with any server except for CompuServe, and then ONLY after switching to the new mail system.
This is a reliability issue, and needs to be resolved.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have tried to access my compuserve classic account since May 19 via Microsoft Outlook without success. I can read my mail via the website, but want to use Outlook. Has anyone had success. Telephone support says some have worked but that this problem is being worked on. I wonder.

At last I have a week of reliable e-mail traffic! My chief problem was always that I could often ‘receive’ without problem but never ‘send’ with the message “no transport provider” with the message immediately bounced back into the ‘received’ folder. The following summarises my own feelings and experiences;
Black mark to AOL for;
· the way you have let CompuServe users walk away to other e-mail hosts, it seems this was your intention
· the pathetic untried migration instructions
· not testing the new servers and software before you made us all aware of the migration,
· the money I’ve wasted on your premium phone line never being answered,
· never replying to my e-mails or fax – not even a “go away, we’re too busy with Elastoplast”
· being extremely unhelpful about migrating addresses (eventually I did it with Excel, the hard way)
· So many hours wasted, I am guessing at a minimum of 30 hours over 3 weeks. At my charge-out rate that is a whole bunch of money I’ve lost
Other Comments
· I have got so many useful tips from this forum, without which I’d be in a lunatic asylum right now
· If you can ‘send’ and ‘receive’ within CompuServe Webmail, then the problem probably lies within the configuration of your chosen webmail client
· Outlook (2000) is incredibly touchy about configuration and required MS patches and various Registry tweaks to make it even moderately robust. I would like to kid myself I eventually scientifically got the right program configurations and boxes ticked, but I guess I probably just tried every alternative combination over time until it eventually burst into life
· In the middle of it all BT Internet decided they would bounce outgoing e-mails from addresses which were not SSL pre-authorised. This together with AOL servers often ‘down’ and the obstinacy of Outlook meant finding the root causes of the problems was almost impossible for a long time. BTW thanks AOL for telling us a different port was necessary for SSL, so long after the event!!!
· Now it all works, I have found Outlook has nothing like the flexibility of CS4 which I was used to. After a small amount of research I have migrated to Pegasus Mail. This client is free, enables outgoing messages to be held in the outbox, has easily accessible circulation lists, can selectively download one or more messages from the CompuServe Server, will simultaneously download from different e-mail accounts and has the ability to synchronise messages/addresses between computers. It will also run direct off a memory stick which is a fantastic facility when travelling – you can just download the message you need. And it has a downloadable manual written in understandable non-techie English!
· I find it necessary at the moment to go into CompuServe Webmail on a daily basis to rescue ‘real’ e-mails from the ‘Spam’ folder and to reject other e-mails it doesn’t screen out, as ‘Spam’. I just hope I am training it properly.
Should anybody wish to contact me to expand on any of the issues mentioned above, please drop me a personal e-mail or paste it up on the Forum.

I am experiencing delays in receiving email messages again, as of Monday June 15 and again today (Tuesday morning). I have sent test messages from another account this morning and they haven't arrived. Yesterday some of them took a few hours to arrive.
This is quite frustrating to have an email account that you can't trust for timely delivery of mail, if at all.

I have been using an HP Ipaq 214 to successfully access webmail compuserve. From yesterday I can no longer access but get this error message "WAP Authentication Error: Error validating WAP authentication token. Clear cookies and try again."
I have Cleared the history, cookies and everything I can clear but I just get the same message.
I can still successfully access webmail compuserve from my laptop. Does anyone know what the problem is and what the answer is

After several weeks the CS team fixed my problems so I could "migrate" OK. However, the Compuserve site freezes every time I log in on my new laptop running Vista and the newest Internet Explorer. I only logged in once all the way when I used someone else's older computer running Windows XP and an older IE. Please help.

My biggest problem seems to be a huge number of emails sent to me that arrive 12 hours late, or more often do not arrive at all.
Some of these are important emails (for example, acknowlegements for job vacancies that contain direct-line contact details not visible to the general public - who knows what jobs I have missed out on?).
Who knows what else hasn't arrived? Every day I discover something I've missed out on because AOL servers have lost my emails. Just a few minutes ago, I learnt that someone is sending me a snail-mail printout of my email because my email address doesn't work!
Can't these (expletive deleted) AOL amateurs TEST things before dumping us all irretrievably into a new system?
I've had my Compuserve address for 20 years, it's known to people all over the world and I can't just change it to another one, like the typical teenage AOL user!
