We're not satisfied until you're satisfied. In response to your feedback we're pleased to introduce some new features in AOL Webmail, and you can be the first to try them out! Experience them at http://beta.webmail.aol.com and as always, let us know what you think.
Create a Rich Text Signature & Set Your Default Font
Many of you have tried our stationery feature already. Here are other ways you can make your messages even more you! Below, you can see that I've designed my custom rich text signature, and added 1 of my favorite funny quotes...pun intended. I've also updated my font color to plum, just in time for the fall season. It should go perfectly with my Fall skin . If you like what you see, you can personalize both of these in Settings.
More and More Themes
Speaking of themes, I love the themes we have in our gallery and we've added even more to our selection! For example, there's a Football theme perfect for the football season; a Halloween theme for 1 of my favorite holidays just around the corner; and even a Doggy theme for the dog lover in all of us. But if you're like me and can't decide on just one, there's good news! Leave it up to chance and select "Use Random Theme." Every day is a new surprise.
Put up a Custom Away Message
For those of us lucky enough to have a planned vacation, we have the perfect solution to help you make everyone else jealous. You can now create your own custom response letting your friends know you're "busy" with life. For the rest of us, I guess we can keep dreaming.
Address Book Export
Many of us can't live without our address books, so why not keep it safe? They say "back up and back up often." You can now do the same with your address book. Simply go to Contacts to find the Export button, then choose from the 3 format options to get a backup copy of your address book.
Those are just a few highlights of what's over in Beta – discover more now
Enjoy!

2. well, the one thing missing is that, why can't we set the starting date and end date for "custom away message"?

3. @sunnierstudent: Thanks for your comment. I do agree that adding a start and end date is a useful feature. We'll look into that.

9. Hi, I just wonder what is wrong with my email service. For the past 2 days I haven't been able to check my email. I double click on the mail and it wont open. The only way to do it is going back to basic email which I don't understand why is doing that now when it was functioning fine without any problems before. It just started in the past 2 days. Any suggestions anyone ? Thanks for you help.

10. @Lujambio9: What exactly do you mean by "Not able to check mail". Are you able to access http://webmail.aol.com? Are you able to see your mail? I assume you can do all of that - but when clicking on a mail (singe click is sufficient) nothing happens. Do you have any pop-up blockers installed? Installed any toolbars? Do you have the AIM plug-in running? Have you tried on a different browser like Firefox or Safari?
@LZTBacon: What url are you using to access your mail? http://webmail.aol.co.uk? What browser are you using? Can you try http://webmail.aol.com and/or another browser?

11. why are you all announcing some features over the tweeter tweets? please announce it here on the blog and then do it anywhere else.
Posted at 4:15PM on Oct 5th 2009 by sunnierstudent
12. @sunnierstudent: Not sure what exactly you're referring to. All new things are announced everywhere. This includes our facebook page, twitter and of course the blog.
Posted at 4:30PM on Oct 5th 2009 by marcelbmbecker
13. there is a tweet from 4 days ago which says something like "we are testing some new log-in designs on http://beta.webmail.aol.com let us know what you think about it"
this announcement was not made here on the blog. or did I miss it?
Posted at 5:07PM on Oct 5th 2009 by sunnierstudent
14. @sunnierstudent: We were only testing this for a couple of days. That's why I was using twitter only. Twitter is for fast, almost real time communication. I don't think the blog was appropriate at that time. But we'll do more there - and once it's fully baked also put it on the blog. So stay tuned.

15. I have had the same problems as those reported by Amanda, LZTbacon, and Luzambio9. I have had them using both dialup and WiFi connections. I have had them using both my preferred browser, Google Chrome, and also on Internet Explorer, although sometimes IE will work better than Google. Here is a more complete listing of intermittent problems:
1. Webmail will open, and messages will be displayed, but double-clicking on the message produces no result.
2. Webmail will open and say "0 messages" until I go to "sent mail" and open that, after which new messages will appear (this has been consistently the case over the past few days.)
3. Webmail will not open at all. Sometimes this can be resolved by going to the slow or "accessible" version, although sometimes that will not respond either.
I would gladly give up all the cool features if I could have reliable email service that was dependably there when I need it.

16. Why can't you do what yahoo does and push your email (real-time) to the iphone?
Posted at 11:33PM on Oct 6th 2009 by Mark
17. I usually don't have much of a problem with aol mail, but since yesterday, I can sign in to my email account, click on aol mail and access my mail, but if I go back to aol.com and then try to retrieve my mail again, it signs me out. I tried 2 other emails under our aol account and neither of them had that problem. My sister is having the same problem I am having. I have cleared cookies and other junk, changed my password, tried siging in under another browser....still getting signed out.
I don't know if this is just an aol glitch or what, but it seems strange that 2 email accounts have this problem and 2 do not.

18. My email wont open - have never happened before. I get the message "service error" and a technical code. What should i do??
Posted at 9:26AM on Oct 7th 2009 by wendy
19. Unable to access my e-mail for the past hour. Get a notice about an unspecified error suggesting I try again. The following is at bottom of message:
The Technical Stuff:
Error Code: C0FE1701
Report ID: 10407-webmail-20091007-102109
Also, HOW DO I REPORT TROUBLE TO AOL IF YOU SEND A CONFIRMATION E MAIL AND I CANT GET TO THE E MAIL? This defies logic. Are you purposely making it difficult to contact you?
Posted at 7:35PM on Oct 7th 2009 by Gene
20. @Wendy, @Nikki: We had an authentication issue this morning, which is fixed. We are currently having another issue which does not affect all users - but you might see an error there as well. We're working full speed on this to get it fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
