Ever since we had to regrettably disable one of our favorite features back in January 2009 (due to the shut down of "AOL Pictures") the entire AOL Mail team has been on a mission to bring it back for users. We knew not having this feature was a deal breaker. After experimenting with various options on our beta site, we can now finally say "It's back." We hope you'll like it better then what we had before.
Now you can truly integrate pictures right into the mail you are composing. No need to upload an image to a picture site first. Simply click on "Insert Pictures", select "My Computer", navigate to the picture you want to send – and done. It will be inserted right into the mail you are composing, ready to be resized and placed just the way you want it to appear in your mail.
You can insert as many pictures as you want. Although keep in mind that the file size of the picture counts towards the total size of a mail you can send, which is currently around 16MB. Btw, we're working to increase the allowable size of a mail so soon you'll be able to send even more. More on that later.....
The feature is currently only available on our beta site: http://beta.webmail.aol.com as we want to test it a bit more to ensure it really works the way we want. Please remember that your feedback plays a crucial role so let us know how you like it or if anything is missing.

2. How about DRAGGING and DROPPING into mail? I think that tech was available a few years ago. Time for AOL to catch up.

3. @ZionBwoy6: Thanks for your feedback. Drag and Drop works fine for desktop applications. When it comes to web applications the story is different. Yahoo is offering this as a plugin for the browser. Otherwise when you drag and drop a picture from your desktop into a webmail app it will usually insert the path to that image - which however is still on your desktop. However we are looking into ways to enable drag and drop, independent from browsers and operating systems. (btw: you can drag and drop pictures from the flickr and photobucket plug-ins)

4. Sorry for posting in a wrong section but I don't know where to write it. The question is the following: why when using Aol mail from another country, in my case from Italy, the mail options are so different? I found Aol mail a very good service but in italian language is very poor..Thanks and sorry again for the wrong section.

5. @Luca: Usually we are rolling out new features to all our users - worldwide. Is there anything in particular you are missing on http://email.aol.it ? The new image embed feature is also available in Italian on http://beta.email.aol.it

6. For example in the settings there is no AIM Easy Transfer option. In the plugin gallery there are only few apps..The US version looks like more complete.
Thanks for the fastest answer I ever had from a blog.

7. @Luca: I see what you mean. The easy transfer option is a contractual issue. Can't go into too many details. Plugins is a similar unfortunately. But you should be able to use all of this by going directly to http://webmail.aol.com (even though it's not in Italian). We're also reviewing our model to hopefully change those shortcomings soon.

8. Nice update to webmail, team! Suggestion: when you click on mail icon from aol.com or toolbar, have the cursor positioned in the screenname box on the sign-in landing page, ready for input. Thanks!

9. @tmpcpamba: Thanks! We noticed this issue too and will get it fixed asap!

14. Lately several emails have been returned to me stating fatal errors in the address. This is not true. They are addresses I use all the time and they have not changed. So why are they coming back? Extremely annoying and important stuff is not getting through.

15. i just starting getting that as well fatal errors on emails addresses i have used for years they too have not changed so whats up with that?????

16. @LaVonne Otwell and pam: Typically the bounce contains the exact error why the mail could not be delivered. Feel free to share this bounce mail with me at marcelbmbecker(at)aol.com so I can take a look and explain what happened.

17. Nice, BUT when you bring back AOL My eAddress?
Posted at 1:22PM on Nov 5th 2009 by Marco
18. @Marco: My eAddress is only available for current My eAddress users. We don't offer this to new users. You can get alternative email addresses at http://www.tunome.com instead.

19. I upgraded to AOL 9.5, and was unable to insert pictures. I understand that it's back, but I cannot get it to work!
Posted at 9:17PM on Nov 5th 2009 by Poppy
20. @Poppy: This article and feature is about AOL Webmail (http://webmail.aol.com). Inserting pictures in desktop mail clients like AOL 9.5 hasn't changed and continues to work through simple drag and drop. Be sure to enable rich text though.
